Medgar Evers College (MEC) is a public, four-year, liberal arts college located in the borough of Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 1970, it is the youngest member of the City University of New York system and enrolls around 7,200 students. Medgar Evers College was established through a partnership between Educators and Community Leaders in central Brooklyn. The College is named after Medgar Evers, a Mississippi-born black civil rights activist and veteran of World War II, who fought against segregation and other forms of racism. He was assassinated in 1963. Today, Medgar Evers College continues to strive to maintain its civil rights tradition through its commitment to the educational empowerment of the African Diaspora Community.
