About the University

American University is located in the U.S. capital, Washington D.C.  This campus is a private, co-educational, liberal arts curriculum campus with Methodist affiliation.  AU is known for their political activism.  Since 2006, American University's students have been recognized three times by Princeton Review as the most politically active in the nation.  There is a student-faculty ratio of 13:1 and 95% of full-time faculty hold the highest degree in their field.  It's a vision for the twenty-first century, but it's grounded in ideals that go back to John Fletcher Hurst and the dream of a university that makes a difference in the lives of its students, its community, and the world.
