About the University
American University is located in the U.S. capital, Washington D.C. This campus is a private, co-educational, liberal arts curriculum campus with Methodist affiliation. There is a student-faculty ratio of 13:1 and 95% of full-time faculty hold the highest degree in their field. Health insurance is required of all full-time degree, resident, and international students with F1 and J1 visas.
All full-time students, students living in university-sponsored housing at American University, and students with an F1 or J1 visa are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. This plan costs $1,750.00
Living on-campus: On-campus housing is available on first-come first-served basis for undergraduate students. If you are interested in living on-campus, please contact Housing and Dining Programs by email.

Off-campus Housing: Housing in the Washington, D.C. area can take time to find. For this reason, AU encourages all students planning to live off-campus to come to Washington, D.C. before your orientation program begins, to locate a place to live. The average budget per month is: $400 – 500
In order to be accepted, students must prove financial resources of $9,000.00 per semester.
