ONE-DAY EXCURSION GIVERNY – MONET’S GARDENS SATURDAY, October 14TH

Claude Monet lived for forty-three years, from 1883 to 1926, in his house in Giverny. With a passion for gardening as well as for colors, he conceived both his flower garden and water garden as true works of art. Walking through his house and gardens, visitors can still feel the atmosphere which reigned at the home of the Master of Impressionism and marvel at the floral compositions and water lilies, his greatest sources of inspiration.

Trip includes: transportation to and from Giverny, as well as entry to Monet’s gardens.

This trip is mandatory for students enrolled in MIC 220 – 19th century French Painting: Impressionism and Beyond.

GUIDED TOUR OF THE COVERED PASSAGES OF PARIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21st

"Paris’s covered passageways give us a glimpse into the city’s past. Although approximately 150 passageways existed by the middle of the 19th century, only a few dozen remain today, most having been destroyed by Haussmann’s urbanism projects. These pedestrian walkways house boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants and each passageway is uniquely decorated. This tour will take students through a number of passages couverts, allowing students to discover and explore these uniquely Parisian spaces."

ONE-DAY EXCURSION TO BOURGOGNE

SATURDAY, December 2nd

Burgundy (Bourgogne in French) offers some of France's most gorgeous countryside: rolling green hills dotted with mustard fields and medieval villages. The region's towns and its dashingly handsome capital, Dijon, are heirs to a glorious architectural heritage that goes back to the Renaissance, the Middle Ages and into the mists of Gallo-Roman and Celtic antiquity.

Two great French passions, wine and food, come together here in a particularly rich and enticing form. In 2015, Burgundy's vineyards were granted Unesco World Heritage status in recognition of the region's centuries-old history of viticulture, combined with the remarkable diversity of its winegrowing terroir (land).
