GENERATION250 is a new scholarship program initiated by the U.S. Embassy in France, launching in 2026 to mark the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence.
50 students will have the opportunity to discover American campus life, enrolled for a semester at one of our many prestigious partner universities across the country or for an English training semester at an Education First campus.
25 fully-funded scholarships for French undergraduate students to spend a semester at a U.S. university — beginning Spring 2027.
25 students strengthening their English language skills with Education First, in New York or San Diego.
Each year, only 5.6% of French students studying abroad choose the United States. Generation50 was created to change that: opening access to a transformative American academic experience for French undergraduates.
Selected scholars will spend one semester at a U.S. partner university, all expenses covered. They will return to France with 30 European credits, strengthened language and professional skills, and membership in a growing Franco-American alumni network.

As a partner for Generation250, EF funds 25 semesters allowing French students to become fluent English speakers in 2 iconic locations: California (San Diego) and New York City.
MICEFA
Academic Cooperation Excellence
The Mission Interuniversitaire de Coordination des Échanges Franco-Américains (MICEFA) is a non-profit consortium founded in 1985, dedicated to promoting cultural and scientific cooperation between France, the United States and Canada.
As the operator of Generation250, MICEFA manages the selection of scholars, the network of French and American partner universities, and the full administrative coordination of the program.

The celebrations of the 250th anniversary of its Declaration of Independence in 2026 will be an opportunity to reassert cooperation between France and the United States. Our mission is to support the next generation of global citizens and leaders by preserving our two countries’ shared history.

By welcoming a GENERATION250 scholar on your campus, you are offering a highly motivated French undergraduate student a fully-funded, transformative American academic experience, while enriching your campus with a new international perspective.
Selected students come from diverse fields of study and regions across France. They are chosen for their academic merit, motivation, and potential and will engage fully in campus life as fee-paying students for one semester.

Q & A
How many French students can we host?
There is no set quota per institution. Placement depends on the match between student preferences, their field of study, and available spots at partner universities.
What are the students' academic levels?
All scholars are enrolled in a French undergraduate degree (equivalent to freshman or sophomore level). They are selected for their academic merit and motivation.
Are the students fee-paying?
Yes. Tuition fees for the semester are covered by the Generation250 scholarship and paid directly to the host university.
What does MICEFA handle, and what do we need to provide?
MICEFA manages the full selection process and administrative coordination. Host universities are expected to provide standard enrollment, housing, and access to campus resources for one semester + documents for visa procedures.
Will there be a formal agreement between our institution and MICEFA?
Yes. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be drafted and sent to your institution upon confirmation of interest.
Will GENERATION250 continue after the first cohort in Spring 2027?
GENERATION250 is designed to be a lasting program. The Spring 2027 cohort is the first of many. Details on future cohorts will be communicated in due course.
