About the University
San Jose State is conveniently located on 154 acres in downtown San Jose, midway between San Francisco and the Monterey/Carmel area at the sunny southern end of the San Francisco Bay, and is easily accessible from area freeways. Founded in 1857, San Jose State is the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast. From its beginnings as a normal school to train teachers for the developing frontier, SJSU has matured into a metropolitan university that offers 145 areas of study with an additional 108 concentrations.

Health insurance is required of all full-time degree, resident, and international students with F1 and J1 visas.
SJSU requires all inbound international students to purchase the SJSU health insurance coverage through JCB Insutance prior to registering for classes. You can register for the mandatory SJSU health insurance online.
