About the University
Founded in 1956, The University of South Florida (USF) is the 8th largest university in the nation with a total enrollment of approximately 47,000 students. USF is a member institution of the State University System of Florida, one of the state’s three flagship universities for public research. Located mainly in Tampa, USF offers the experience of a dynamic college campus in the folds of a metropolitan area. With emphasis on developing innovative, implementable solutions to transportation problems, the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) provides objective transportation expertise in the form of technical support, policy analysis, and research support for its project sponsors.
USF is also one of only 38 institutions that host all three (Army, Naval and Air Force) ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) programs.
With over 300 student organizations to choose from, students are very involved on campus. A member of the Big East athletic conference, USF competes against some of the top ranked schools in the country. For students who like participating in sports, many intramural and club sports are available. Campus Recreation also offers the traditional gym options as well as group fitness classes, racquetball courts and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
